The greatest secret of the 20th century

For decades, people have been searching for clues and keys, constructing hypotheses and putting forward hundreds of versions of what really happened. But the truth lies in this interview. The interview of a man who, in 1963, was at the very heart of the great conspiracy against America.

A mockumentary film based on a "What if" premise. What if Lee Harvey Oswald was not shot in 1963 after the assassination attempt on the President, but was secretly taken to the Soviet Union with the help of US and USSR intelligence agencies? In the 1980s, he gives an interview about the events in Dallas. The film explores various conspiracy theories. The story is told from the first-person perspective of Lee Harvey Oswald, now 44 years old. He will share his version of the events and the conspiracy against the President. The film is stylized to resemble Soviet documentary footage from that era.

The film consists of an extensive interview given by Oswald to Soviet journalists and intelligence agencies. The dialogue is conducted in Russian with English subtitles. Lee Harvey Oswald recounts his life in the USSR from 1963 to 1984. From the horse's mouth, we learn the details of how Oswald managed to survive the assassination attempt, who helped him escape to the Soviet Union, and who stood to benefit from the murder of President Kennedy.

Is this an interesting fantasy... or a real interview?

Idea

The idea for this project came about 10 years ago. And, as it turned out, it needed to mature like a fine wine.

People are very fond of conspirology, conspiracy theories, and mysteries. One such mystery is the assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963. The whole world is still examining hundreds of theories and conjectures—who exactly killed President Kennedy? Lee Harvey Oswald, the FBI, the USSR?

We examined many theories and derived our own formula. We will present our theory as an alternative history. What if Lee Harvey Oswald had survived—what would he have told us? What if he had been secretly smuggled out to the USSR, where he continued to live as an ordinary citizen, but with a great secret weighing on him?

The project gained new momentum when we began working on it together with the actor who will portray the 44-year-old Lee Harvey Oswald. We constructed episodes and entire scenes—how and where this could have happened. Would Oswald have given an interview? Would he have dared to reveal the truth? Could Oswald have secretly visited Dallas in the 1980s? Would he have dared to do that?

This idea struck us as interesting and powerful. What if Oswald actually survived and secretly left for the USSR? And maybe this isn't our invention, but the actual truth?

Realise

We want to see this project through to release. Of course, to do that, we need to raise the minimum amount required for production. We plan to work on the project openly, providing full accountability and maintaining a production diary, which will be accessible to our sponsors.

We are allocating one year for the production of the project. That is a long time for an indie film, but we want to approach the work with quality and responsibility. We are a small team of people ready to dedicate ourselves entirely to this work. We will give the project all of our time to get it done. Everything will depend on the amount of funds raised and the circumstances—whether we will obtain permission to travel and shoot in Dallas, USA. This greatly complicates the production process, but it also gives us the opportunity to make the film more interesting. The question of shooting in Russia and Belarus has already been resolved.

We plan to release the film on a private platform for those great people who support the project. Sponsors will have access to a website where they can watch the film and view additional behind-the-scenes materials. If the maximum funding goal is reached, we will shoot a documentary about the making of the project and present it after the release of the main film.

Roadmap

  • 3 months – Pre-production Scriptwriting, adjusting labor costs, selecting and securing locations, forming the budget and the team, and setting up the production base.
  • 6 months – Production The active phase of production. Principal photography on studio sets and in constructed environments. Location filming in Russia and Belarus on location. Filming in the USA, pending approval.
  • 3 months – Post-production Film editing, color grading, sound mixing and dubbing, and translating the film into English subtitles.

Financing plan

  • €500,000 This is the minimum amount required to begin work on the project. By raising this sum, we will be able to start developing the script and preparing for filming on location. At this stage, we will secure additional funding from personal resources and from parties interested in the project, which will allow us to finance the project through to its completion.
  • €1,500,000 If the campaign exceeds the aforementioned amount and reaches €1,500,000, we will be able to expand the script and add new scenes and locations. We will edit the material into a 4-episode miniseries, with a runtime of 60 minutes per episode. The total duration will be 4 hours.
  • €2,000,000 In the event of a more than successful fundraiser reaching €2,000,000, we will supplement the project with a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of "Oswald says". We will cover the filming in different countries and locations, conduct interviews with those working on the project, and release it as a bonus feature after the premiere of the main film.
